Attended presentation on healthcare reform, sponsored by the Committee for Economic Development
On October 15, 2007, I attended a program on healthcare reform, sponsored by the Committee for Economic Development [1], Bay Area Council [2], and Pacific Business Group on Health [3].
George C. Halvorson, Chairman and CEO of the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, provided an illuminating presentation regarding practical steps to improve wellness and healthcare. Some themes include focusing on high-return/high-cost areas (such as chronic care) and getting value from healthcare records and information systems. I appreciate presentation for its content, the apparent value and practicality of some recommendations, and for its clarity. And, I thank him for providing me an autographed copy of his book “Health Care Reform Now!”
Other presentations provided diverse views on opportunities to improve healthcare and the financing thereof. For example, CED unveiled a new report, “Quality, Affordable Health Care For All: Moving Beyond The Employer-Based Health-Insurance System.”
