I attended the June 21, 2007, meeting of the CIO Community of Practice, led by Ralph Boethling (CIOwerks ) and John Moran (Global Gateways ). A key element of the meeting was “View of CIO role – CEO, CFO, COO, HR panel.” The panel members were …
Guy Gecht, Chief Executive Officer & Chairman, Electronics For Imaging, Inc.
Dave Robbins, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, BigFix
Stuart W. Booth, EVP, CFO & Secretary, Central Garden & Pet Company
Debbie Shotwell, Group Vice President, Human Resources and Talent, Taelo
There was considerable discussion – by and with the panelists. Discussion continued after the panelists left. I mentioned 6 potential roles for chief information officers, per my Computerworld Leadership Series article “Evaluating the CIO.”
The meeting provided practical “how to” advice for and examples of CIOs functioning at reasonably above the “Transactions and Infrastructure”-only service levels evident over a span of years in many organizations.
I appreciate Ralph’s and John’s making it possible for me to attend.
